Claude Dumont, a French art painter was born in 1938. He did The School of Fine Arts of Metz. He is representated by galleries and specializes in themes which are no longer secret to him, such as painting of sights of Paris or Venice, clowns ...
Claude Dumont was born in Metz (France). He spends his childhood in the Meuse area and his parents enroll him at the national college to become an industrial designer.
At the age of 15, he has to stop his studies as he is in the first stage of tuberculosis and he is cared for for 2 years at Villiers Cotterets. There, he meets some Parisians and asks his parents to enroll him at the fashion design school in Paris at Ms Bazot.
At the age of 19 he completes his military service in Algeria in 28 months, amongst the red hat parachutes.
Upon his return, he works in different fashion establishments: Daniel Hechter, Balaciaga and in magazines such as “tout savoir” and “guerir”.
However, one of his peers from the army who had noticed him for his drawing skills contacts him to go to the Place du Tertre in Montmartre (a district in Paris) with him. His success was instantaneous drawing "Poulbots" (Little anecdote: in one month he manages to pay for his first car a triumph). His first paintings are signed C.Demange.
After a two-year escapade in Amsterdam, , he comes back to Montmartre and only works at his workshop, and each morning, he goes to the Butte de Montmartre, to give his canvasses to his two salesmen. He lives opposite Gen Paul, in Girardon Street and belongs there.
During his time in Montmartre, he meets Bernard Buffet, Dalida, Jean Marais, Francis Lai, Roger Pierre, Jean Amadou, in places like “Chez ma cousine” or “chez Toto” or “Au Pichet”, the meeting point of all artists living in Montmartre. “La Galerie du Chevalier” and its owner, Mister Closen, notice his talent and asks him to exhibit on his premises, but with the signature of Claude Lorrain. He decorates the ceilings of the brasserie “La Crémaillère”. In his restaurant "La Pomponette", Roger the owner buys many pieces by Claude.
A few years later, it’s Andre Roussard, who lives on Mont cenis Street, who calls upon him for the Japanese Market.
An important Swiss Gallery represents him for his clowns paintings in a big format.
But in 1981, Gilles Hubert contacts him and imposes the name of Claude DUMONT and him quoted in guides to Artists listings, where his success is immediate. Along with Gilles Hubert, he is now amongst renowned painters and meets Henry d'Anty, Henri Stenn, Pierre Grisot, Denis Canut, Jean-Bernard Trotzier, Eugene Begarat, Claude Mourier, Jean-Piere Dubord, Kimiyo Masuda, Georges Ferro La Gree and many others.
In 1993 Henri Stenn dies and Gilles Hubert terminates his job as an agent.
Naturally, Claude Dumont continues since, to be represented by galleries and specializes in themes such as paintings of sights of Paris or Venice, clowns, pierrots, arlequins … He does many paintings specific to his region "La Lorraine" but also on numerous French towns. It is true that few artists can paint the Place de Stanislas in Nancy or the Metz Cathedral, for instance.
